The IS420PFFAH1A device is an Energy Foundation Fieldbus Gateway that was designed by General Electric to work within the Mark VIe or Mark VIeS Safety Control Systems. This model can also be seen as a first/last linking device that can be removed or added depending on some of the different alarms that occur during the operation of the Mark VIe system.
There are multiple gateway types that can be used within the Mark VIe system the IS420PFFAH1A model is just one of several different types. There are several redundancy modes that can be used with this model which range from Triple Modular Redundant (TMR), simplex, or dual redundant.
